VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

Leicester Animal Aid Association (LAA) is a registered charity devoted to providing new homes for 100's of unwanted dogs and cats.

If you would like to make a positive difference to the lives of these pets there is a choice of ways you might like to become involved. Applicants should have their own transport as the Centre is not on a bus route.
Openings for volunteers include:-
  • Kennel/Cattery Staff
  • Dog Walkers
  • Office Staff
  • Maintenance/Gardening Staff
  • Fund-raising/Site Shop
All volunteers are required to be health & safety aware and abide by the regulations set by the management.
People considering volunteering to work at LAA should check that their tetanus vaccinations are up to date or take their doctors advice

 Site Thrift Shopshop
Kennel/Cattery Staff
To clean pens and runs, prepare feed, groom and give plenty of TLC to the animals.
Age: 16+
Experience: Preferably experience of handling animals and ideally kennels/cattery work.
Training:As required. On Job
Time Commitment:Minimum 1 day a week
Administration Staff
The general office and fund-raising administration team need support staff
Age:18+
Experience:Good communication skills (face to face and telephone), computer literacy and general office experience
Training:As required. On the jobTime Commitment:Minimum 1 day or 2 half days per week
Dog Walking

Dog Walkers
It is our aim that each dog is given "one to one" attention and is taken for a walk every day. LAA is very fortunate to have a team of volunteer dog walkers who help everyday of the year - come rain or shine.


Age:18+
Experience: Preferably knowldge of handling dogs.
Training: As required. On the job
Time Commitment: Minimum 1 hour falling on the same day each week
Fund-raisers
Fund-raisers for on site projects. tasks include:-
  • Sorting and pricing items for the thrift shop (on site)
  • "Manning" the site thrift shop
  • Taking part in collections, helping with on site events such as Open Day & Family Fun Day as well as "off" site events
  • There is virtually limitless choice for people who recognise opportunity and can implement the project.

Age:18+

Experience:Fund-raising, marketing experience an advantage but confidence and the ability to communicate well with the public is essential

Training:None specific

Time Commitment:Sufficient to work within team frame work

Reception Staff
We have many visitors each day and it is important that they receive good attention and made to feel welcome. We also have many phone enquiries and it is essential that callers are provided with correct information and feel encouraged to visit us.
Age:18+
Experience:Ideally some background in customer service
Time Commitment:Minimum of 1 day each week (10am-2.30pm)
Training:As required. On the job.
Maintenance & Gardening
Odd job help for on site repairs and maintaining garden areas.
Age:18+
Experience:General experience of domestic DIY and the use of every day tools
Time Commitment:Minimum 1 day per weekTraining:No specific, needs to be a self starter.
